We all love a little (or sometimes a lot of) BLING! There is a time and a place for it… Try wearing a really uniquely style shirt with an ordinary yet cute pair of jeans. You can also try the reverse. Wear a pretty plain shirt with a pair of jeweled or super studded jeans. The contrast between your top and bottom balances out your do and doesn’t make you look over-done. You can also play up a pair of ordinary (or distressed/worn) jeans with some eye-catching, rock star heels! New ways to do YOU!

Skinny leg versus flare/bootcut leg? Which do you prefer? Well here are a few tips on which style of jeans best flatters your shape.

Skinny jeans are more flattering on slim body types. Especially if you are deficient in the hip area. Not saying you have to be a walking stick to wear them. Just don’t be deceived into thinking because they are called Skinny Jeans, they will make you appear skinnier. If you have really wide hips/butt or a more round in your mid-section, stay away from these jeans. They’ll make you look disproportionate by emphasizing the smallness of your ankles compared to the roundness of your mid-section. Sorry…

Bootcut or Flare Leg jeans are more flattering on more curvy shapes. This is also a good jean style for your if you are top heavy. The wideness or bell curve of the leg opening helps to balance out the proportion of your hips.

No matter what’s in… never go against your instinct on which style of clothing is flattering and brings out the diva in you!

The summer heat is quickly returning and so is that nagging fear of wearing tank tops. “They look so cute on some people but arms are just too big” or “I feel like I’m revealing too much..” Is this what you’re telling yourself? Well release those fears that have come creeping in with the warm weather! Here are 5 tips on how to wear tank tops without feeling uncomfortable:

1. Wear a CROP jacket or light-weight sweater (short-sleeved of course) over the tank top. This will cover your arms/shoulders but still reveal the body of the tank top and show that flattering waistline!

2. What’s better than denim? Wear a denim jacket! Great with ANY color tank top. Also match with colorful accessories that will bring out the colors of the tank top and look extremely trendy with the jacket.

3. Dress it up! Wear it under a blazer with a pair of jeans or linen pants. Stylish and still cool enough for those grown & sexy summer parties.

4. Business/Casual day in the office and its too hot for a blazer? That’s okay. Put a light-weight, cotton, button-down shirt over the tank top. Leave the first few buttons un-done or only button the middle button to show the contrasting colors of your shirt and tank. Add some pearls and cute pair of pumps and hurry to your first meeting of the day!

5. For a fun day in the park with the family, wear a tank top under your track suit instead a tee. It’s much cooler for the outdoors and gives a more sculpted fit than a lumpy t-shirt!

Get ready for summer with a new outlook on tanks!

Black History Month Fun Facts!

Black History Month originated in 1926 by Carter Godwin Woodson as Negro History Week. The month of February was chosen in honor of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, who were both born in that month.

The banjo originated in Africa and up until the 1800s was considered an instrument only played by blacks.

Muhammad Ali (1942 – ) the self–proclaimed “greatest [boxer] of all time” was originally named after his father, who was named after the 19th century abolitionist and politician Cassius Marcellus Clay.
Paul Cuffee (1759 – 1817) an African–American, philanthropist, ship captain, and devout Quaker transported 38 free African–Americans to Sierra Leone, Africa in 1815 in the hopes of establishing Western Africa. He also founded the first integrated school in Massachusetts in 1797.

Jazz, an African–American musical form born out of the Blues, Ragtime, and marching bands originated in Louisiana during the turn of the 19th century. The word Jazz is a slang term that at one point referred to a sexual act.

Nancy Green (1834 – 1923) a former slave, was employed in 1893 to promote the Aunt Jemima brand by demonstrating the pancake mix at expositions and fairs. She was a popular attraction because of her friendly personality, great story-telling, and warmth. Green signed a lifetime contract with the pancake company and her image was used for packaging and billboards. In 1923 she was struck by a car in downtown Chicago.

Wally Amos “Famous Amos” (1936 – ) creator of the Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies, was a talent agent at the William Morris Agency where he worked with the likes of The Supremes, Simon & Garfunkel, and various child stars. He founded his cookie company in 1975 with a recipe from his aunt.

Have you tried Toombas Jeans yet? I don’t know you but I tried them and fell in love. I know a lot of ladies talk about how much junk they have in their trunk but I am truly the description of “little in the middle but she got much back” as Sir Mix-Alot would say! And though I love this description of my curvaceous body, I have yet to put on a pair of jeans that do not gap in the waist! So Toombas is my brand from now on….

Only thing is, they only had one length available… I know you heard me say had. Oh yes, they now have PETITE LENGTH JEANS!! How nice! Not only do I not have to take my jeans to be altered in the waist anymore (thanks to Toombas), now I don’t have to take them to have the length altered either. Completely elated… Thanks Toombas!
